Nicholas Colquhoun-Denvers
Dear Members and Friends of Ham Polo Club,
It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we share the news of the passing of our former Chairman and dear friend, Nicholas Colquhoun‑Denvers.
Nicholas was the club’s longest‑serving Chairman, and his dedication to the sport of polo was truly exceptional. He served with distinction not only at Ham Polo Club, but also as Chairman of the Hurlingham Polo Association (HPA) and as President of the Federation of International Polo (FIP). His leadership helped shape the modern era of our club. Under his stewardship, Ham Polo Club grew significantly, and it was Nicholas who drove the acquisition of our second ground—a milestone that transformed the club’s capabilities and long‑term future. He also championed the development of the all‑weather track and the installation of our watering systems, improvements that continue to benefit us today.
On a personal note, I will always remember Nicholas as a superb polo player—calm under pressure and clinical in front of goal. We travelled together to Newport, Rhode Island, for the annual American Cup, and it was his brilliance on the field that secured the victory. Alongside his wonderful wife, Annie, Nicholas ran the club with charm, warmth, and an extraordinary commitment of time and energy.
As we mourn his loss, we take comfort in knowing that Nicholas is now reunited with his beloved Annie, who passed away four years ago. Their partnership was a cherished part of the fabric of our club, and it is fitting to think of them together once more.
Nicholas leaves behind a legacy of leadership, generosity, and vision—one that will continue to shape Ham Polo Club for generations.
With heartfelt condolences,
Simon
Chairman, Ham Polo Club
